Home : Prayer/Ritual : Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah

It’s never too late to celebrate your Jewish coming of age! Learn how to chant the Haftarah and from the Torah. Study various aspects of synagogue ritual. Celebrate from the Bimah during a Shabbat or Festival morning service.

Prerequisite: Ability to read Hebrew.

Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah Class

Is it true you never had a Bar/Bat Mitzvah? You're not alone. Many adults at B'nai Tikvah did not celebrate their becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah when they were younger. Others may have had a celebration but did not learn to chant from the Torah/Haftarah using the full trope method (ancient musical notation) or did not feel that they fully developed their ritual skills through that process.

If you are interested in joining a small group of adults who study together for 1-2 years in preparation for a future Bar/Bat Mitzvah, where you will have the opportunity to chant Torah and Haftarah from the bimah, please contact Ritual Director, Rachel Rosenberg, at the Synagogue. A new class is currently in formation.

Contact Rachel, 847/945-0470, to reserve your spot or to discuss any aspects of the opportunity to participate in this awesome and fulfilling journey.
