Whole Person Learning

Whole Person Learning is at the heart of our Religious School approach. We seek to nurture each child as a whole person, helping students grow into knowledgeable, connected, confident, and engaged members of the Jewish community.

Our Whole Person Learning approach encourages students to:

• Develop a sense of connection to Klal Yisrael, the worldwide Jewish community
• Build a strong sense of belonging within a caring and engaged Jewish community
• Explore Jewish beliefs, values, and traditions while developing their own ideas and perspectives
• Experience Judaism in ways that are meaningful, relevant, and participatory
• Develop the knowledge and skills they need to engage with Jewish life as they grow
• Cultivate a sense of joy, pride, and connection in being Jewish

Primary Department

Jewish learning and connection begin early. Our Primary Department serves students in Pre-K through 2nd grade and introduces children to the many facets of Jewish life in an age-appropriate, engaging, and joyful way. Through stories, music, holidays, prayer, hands-on activities, and community experiences, students begin to build a foundation of Jewish knowledge and develop a sense of connection and belonging.

Primary Department students also have opportunities to participate in Friday night Shabbat services, giving them the chance to experience and become familiar with the rituals and traditions of Shabbat alongside their families and community.

The experiences and knowledge children gain during these early years provide an important foundation for their continued Jewish learning in the Hebrew Department.

Hebrew Department

Our Hebrew Department is designed to build upon the Jewish knowledge, experiences, and connections students develop in the Primary Department.

Students develop their ability to read and write Hebrew, learn to understand and participate in Hebrew prayers, and gain exposure to modern Hebrew vocabulary. Along the way, they deepen their understanding of Jewish traditions, values, and texts while building a meaningful connection to the language of the Jewish people.

The Hebrew Department prepares students to become confident participants in Jewish life and culminates in their transition toward B’nai Mitzvah and the next stage of their Jewish journey.
